Adriel builds for future

WEST LIBERTY, OH – For over 110 years, Adriel has been serving Ohio’s neediest children. On June 2, with the groundbreaking for a new residential home on its West Liberty campus, Adriel began preparing for its next 100 years of service.

The new home, which will serve 24 children, will be constructed with both comfort and durability in mind. The layout features two separate sides, each housing 12 children, with a suite of offices and training rooms in the center. The floorplan is open and spacious, with plans to build many of the furnishings into the structure of the home. Mike Mullins, CEO of Adriel, stated that “more children are coming to us with more severe behavioral issues than ever before. This new home, which is specifically designed for those children, will allow us to serve them in a safe and comfortable environment.”

The construction of this facility is one part Adriel’s three-year Campaign for Today’s Child, a comprehensive plan to enhance the residential and foster care programs. In addition to the new group home, plans to update two of the existing homes to modern standards will allow Adriel to serve children in state of the art facilities. With the extra space, the residential program will also be able to build in a step down option for children whose behaviors have improved but who still need residential care; this will enable those children to remain in an appropriate treatment environment where they can continue their schooling and work toward their treatment goals. For foster care, plans to expand the program into additional regions of Ohio will continue.

Adriel, founded as an orphan’s home by the Mennonite Church in 1896, is a not-for-profit agency serving children and families. Adriel is accredited by CARF, licensed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, certified by the Ohio Department of Mental Health, and is a Certified Teaching Family Sponsor Site.
